Seven Flowers Power: A Ritual Bath to Attract Positive Energy and Good Luck

Traditional customs in Chinese culture have long been seen as an epitome of wisdom that could still be of great help to us today. A prime example of this is the Seven Flowers ritual bath, which is quite similar to the scenes of royal concubines bathing in petals portrayed in films. It is said that this bathing ritual, done with petals of seven distinct colors, can increase one's personal aura and infuse it with natural flower vitality, filling it with a positive energy and granting them good fortune!

“The number "seven" is a cycle of the law of the universe and is considered an auspicious number, so seven and its multiples are often used to signify "completeness"”

Origin of Seven Flowers Ritual

The origin of Seven Flowers ritual is generally attributed to Taoism, but in fact there are similar rituals in Buddhism, such as the "aroma soup" used in the Buddha Bathing Festival, which is made of flower petals and spices, as a cleansing accessory. In Buddhism, the number "seven" is a cycle of the law of the universe and is considered an auspicious number, so seven and its multiples are often used to signify "completeness". The West also has a similar concept: the energy system of the human body is composed of seven main chakras, each of which has a corresponding color, namely red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet (white). The use of seven flowers can purify these seven chakras, enhance energy to achieve a balanced state, and attract positive energy and good luck.

Selection of the Seven Flowers

When it comes to selecting flowers for the Seven Flowers ritual, there are traditionally no exact stipulations. As a rule, flowers with meaningful symbolic values and a variety of hues are chosen. Additionally, it is suggested that chrysanthemums and gladiolus, which are traditionally offered as sacrificial offerings, as well as flowers with thorns like roses, are not employed due to their alleged "aggressive" nature and lack of serenity.

Seven Flowers Bath in Ancient time

In times long past, a flower bath was the go-to form of bathing - as showers weren't a thing back then. All one had to do was to take seven flower petals, place them in the bathwater, and soak oneself from head to toe. Meditation can be used to further intensify the positive effects on one's mental and physical state, and it's recommended to keep this routine for seven days.

If the purpose is to cleanse the body, sea salt can be added to the bathwater to eliminate the negative energies inside. However, salt was very pricey in those days, so only those of higher standing had access to it. Besides, you can use plants like pomelo leaves, cypress leaves, and chinese wampi leaves for the same cleansing purpose.
